USM thesis help here starts with the document the Institute of Postgraduate Studies checks your draft against, not with a generic template. At Universiti Sains Malaysia the format check happens before examiners ever see a page, and a thesis that fails it goes back to you, not forward. We write and revise chapters, set the Abstrak and Abstract in the order IPS asks for, and answer viva corrections line by line. If your problem is layout alone, our thesis formatting team can take it as a smaller job.
Independent service โ no university affiliation. ThesisHelper Malaysia is a private academic support provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, accredited by or officially connected to any university, college or examination body shown above. All institution names and marks remain the property of their respective owners and appear here only to describe the proposal formats and submission requirements our writers work with.
Six things that send a Universiti Sains Malaysia draft back, and almost none of them is about your findings.
The IPS guide asks for a 4.0 cm left margin with 2.5 cm on the other three sides. Word's default template and most journal templates do not do this, so a thesis assembled from published papers often arrives with the wrong text block on every page.
IPS wants the abstract in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with the Malay version first and each version carrying its own title. Candidates who write in English tend to put the English abstract first and treat the Abstrak as a translation added at the end.
The guide caps the abstract at 400 words in one paragraph, covering the problem, objectives, method and a summary of findings. A results-heavy abstract with four paragraphs and a bullet list of contributions will not pass as it stands.
IPS accepts APA, Harvard or MLA, chosen with your supervisor, then applied consistently. The trouble starts when Chapter 2 came from one reference manager library and Chapter 4 from a co-author's paper in another style.
The Notice of Thesis Submission has to reach your School, Centre or Institute at least three months before you submit. Candidates who finish writing first and file the notice afterwards lose a quarter of a semester waiting.
School-level submission steps ask for the draft and final thesis as a PDF protected with your student smart card number, sent by email. An unprotected file, or one sent to the wrong campus address, adds another round.
Has your draft already come back from IPS once? Send the return note and the PDF. We will separate format faults from content faults before anyone rewrites a word.
Send the Return Note โWork is scoped to the stage you are at and to your own School's practice, which we ask you to confirm.
Margins, Times New Roman 12 or Arial 11, double spacing for text and single spacing for long tables, footnotes and reference entries. Page numbers centred at the bottom, Roman for preliminaries and Arabic from Chapter 1.
Both versions written from your findings, Malay first, each under its own title, one paragraph and inside the 400-word cap. The Abstrak is written as Malay academic prose, not a machine translation of the English.
Title page with the fulfilment statement and month and year of submission to IPS, a one-page acknowledgement, contents, lists of tables, figures and plates, symbols and abbreviations, then the abstracts.
Numbered by chapter, table headings above and figure and plate headings below, decimals aligned. Photographs are labelled as plates, which many candidates from other universities have never been asked to do.
We agree APA, Harvard or MLA with you and your supervisor, then rebuild every in-text citation and entry to match. References start on a fresh page under a centred capitalised heading.
Chapters 1 to 5 written or revised against your penyelia's comments, with real, checkable sources. Word counts are kept inside the IPS limits of 50,000 for a master's thesis and 80,000 for a PhD.
Draft chapters go through Turnitin screening at your School before IPS sees them. We rework passages that are too close to sources by rewriting them properly, not by swapping synonyms.
Each item on the correction list from the panel secretary is answered in a table that points to the page and line changed, ready for the Endorsement of Correction Made form your School asks for.
Not sure whether your School follows the IPS page or its own steps?Tell us your School or Centre and campus. If you have not yet defended your proposal, our proposal writing service is the better place to start.
Ask About Your School โWe read your School's own submission steps alongside the IPS guide before quoting.
At draft stage with an IPS deadline?Send the draft and the date. If your supervisor has flagged passages as AI-written, our hand-rebuild service can run alongside.
Start With a Free Read โSix points from IPS and School pages that candidates most often learn too late.
The Notice of Thesis Submission goes to your School, Centre or Institute at least three months before you submit, after your supervisor approves it. The Dean or Director forwards it to IPS so examiners can be appointed. Draft submission is only allowed once your minimum candidature period is complete.
IPS asks for a softcopy of the draft chapters to be screened through Turnitin at your School, Centre or Institute. The School of Mathematical Sciences publishes an accepted similarity index of 25% or below, processed in three working days. Other Schools may set their own figure, so ask yours.
The draft is format-checked and verified at IPS before it goes for examination, and IPS states it will not accept a thesis that is not in the prescribed format. A Bursary clearance showing tuition and examination fees are paid is also part of the draft pack.
School-level steps for both draft and final submission ask for a PDF protected with your student smart card number, sent by email. Final theses go to separate addresses for the Main, Engineering and Health campuses, so a Health campus candidate should not use the Main campus address.
IPS gives examiners one month for a master's thesis and two months for a doctoral thesis, followed by a viva voce. The outcome is graded on Scale 1 to 5, from a pass with no corrections to a fail with no resubmission.
After corrections are verified, the final thesis is format-checked again at IPS. Two hardbound copies are produced with gold lettering, red for a master's and black for a PhD, each with a CD, one set for your School and one for IPS.
Which of these six is holding your submission up?Tell us the step and we will tell you what the next document needs to look like.
Ask About Your Step โFour points where candidates usually ask for help, and what the work involves at each.
Chapters still moving, supervisor comments outstanding, and three months to go before the notice can be filed. We revise one chapter at a time against the comments so the notice goes in with a thesis that will actually be ready.
Content is settled but the document has never been set to the IPS guide. We rebuild margins, spacing, numbering, captions and the preliminary pages, and flag any reference that does not match the chosen style.
The examiners have the thesis. We run a mock panel on the chapters examiners usually press on, method and contribution, and help you prepare a short opening that matches your School's practice.
Minor corrections or major changes listed in the Viva-voce Panel Report. Each one is answered in the text and logged in a response table, so the panel or Dean can verify it quickly.
The IPS rules on this page are USM's own. Universiti Putra Malaysia asks for a 300 to 500 word abstract with SDGs, IIUM sets out up to three abstracts, and Universiti Malaya works by faculty guideline. See the UPM thesis page, the IIUM thesis page or our UM thesis guide.
A re-examination result needs a resubmitted thesis and a second viva, which ends in pass or fail only. That is heavier work than minor corrections. Our viva corrections service explains how we scope it before quoting.

Work with Wai โSix things that change when the work starts from the IPS guide instead of a general template.
We write the Malay abstract as academic Bahasa Malaysia from your findings. A literal translation of the English reads awkwardly to a Malay-speaking examiner and is easy to spot, even when every word is technically correct.
We set the IPS layout at the start of revision, so new pages arrive in the right shape. Formatting a 50,000-word thesis in the last week is where margins and numbering usually break.
Every source is one you can open. We do not add references to pad a literature review, and we flag any entry in your own list that we cannot trace to a real publication.
Each viva correction is answered in a table with the page and line, so whoever verifies your corrections does not have to hunt for changes across the thesis.
IPS sets the format, but Schools run their own Turnitin and signature steps. We ask which School and campus you are at, rather than assuming Penang main campus for everyone.
We never send anything to IPS or your School for you, and we do not hold your smart card number. You stay the author and the one who files every form.
N.H. had a master's thesis on water quality index readings from a river in Penang, built partly from two conference papers. The chapters were sound, and the supervisor had signed off on the content. The document itself was the problem. The left margin was 2.5 cm because the papers had been pasted in from a publisher template. The English abstract sat before the Abstrak and ran to 560 words over three paragraphs. Chapter 2 used APA while Chapter 4, lifted from a co-authored paper, used numbered citations. Photographs of sampling stations were labelled as figures. The Notice of Submission had already gone in, so the draft deadline was fixed, and the School's Turnitin screening was due the following week.
We reset the whole document to the IPS layout and rebuilt the preliminaries in the guide's order. Both abstracts were rewritten to one paragraph under 400 words, Malay first, each with its own title. Chapter 4's citations were converted to APA to match the rest, and three entries that could not be traced were sent back to N.H. to replace. Station photographs became plates, numbered by chapter.
The draft cleared the School's similarity screening and the IPS format check on the first submission. N.H. protected and sent the PDF personally, and the thesis went to examiners without a return for format.
Is your draft in the same position?Send it before the format check, not after.
Send Your Draft โAn English abstract of 600 words and a Google-translated Abstrak placed after it, with no separate title on either version.
Both rewritten from the findings, Malay first, one paragraph each, under 400 words, with separate titles as the IPS guide asks.
IPS reads the abstracts first, so the first page no longer drew a flag.
A panel report asking for a restructured method chapter, a clearer statement of contribution, and twelve smaller items across four chapters.
Each item answered in the text and logged in a response table with page and line, ready for the endorsement form.
The panel could verify every change without rereading the whole thesis.
Harvard in Chapters 1 to 3, IEEE-style numbers in Chapter 4, and 14 references nobody could find a source for.
Agreed APA with the supervisor, converted every citation, and returned the untraceable entries for the candidate to replace.
A single, checkable reference list before the three-month notice clock started.

Ask for a Similar Fix โ"Vetting sent my 214 pages back over a margin and a contents page. Nobody had read a word of the research. A month gone."
"After my viva I made the corrections and refreshed the contents page myself in thirty seconds. That was the whole point."
"Nine of my figure references said 'Error! Reference source not found' in the submitted PDF. I hadn't even seen it in Word."
"My faculty wanted Word and I had built everything in LaTeX. They converted it with all sixty equations intact instead of retyping."
"The audit was free and it listed five things. I fixed three myself and paid them for the two I couldn't work out."
"I had already printed two hardbound copies with the wrong binding margin. Check that before you pay a binder โ please."
"Saya tak tahu fail e-tesis dan fail cetak adalah dua dokumen berbeza. Mereka hantar kedua-duanya sekali."
"Every time I added a paragraph my figure numbers went wrong. Automatic captions fixed it permanently and I stopped being scared of my own document."

PhD theses are quoted by agreement after we read the proposal and progress reports. We cannot promise an IPS outcome, a similarity figure or a viva result; IPS and your examiners decide those. AI detectors can misfire on human writing, so we write by hand and keep drafts to show your process. For general writing at PhD level, see our PhD thesis support.
The first format and preliminaries check is free. One chapter revised against your supervisor's comments starts at RM 320, the Abstrak and Abstract pair at RM 350, and preliminaries and layout to the IPS guide at RM 420. Post-viva corrections start at RM 650, a mock viva at RM 800, and a full master's thesis at RM 1,950. PhD work is quoted by agreement after we read your documents.
The IPS format guide says the abstract is written in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with the Bahasa Malaysia version first and each version under its own title. It also caps the abstract at 400 words in one paragraph. If your School has told you something different in writing, follow that and keep the note, but the IPS guide is what the format check uses.
The IPS guide sets 2.5 cm at the top, bottom and right, and 4.0 cm on the left, on white A4 paper. Page numbers sit centred at the bottom. Most candidates who fail on margins have pasted in journal papers or used a template from another university, so we check every section break, not only the first page.
IPS does not mandate one style. The guide accepts APA, Harvard or MLA, chosen with your supervisor or from the reputable journals in your field, and then applied consistently. Most enquiries we get use APA 7th. The common fault is mixing styles across chapters, which we fix by converting every citation to the agreed style.
IPS asks for the notice to reach your School, Centre or Institute at least three months before you submit the thesis, approved by your supervisor and forwarded by your Dean or Director so examiners can be appointed. We can help get chapters ready during those three months, but the notice itself is yours to file.
IPS asks for draft chapters to be screened through Turnitin at your School, Centre or Institute. The School of Mathematical Sciences publishes an accepted similarity index of 25% or below. We have not seen a single figure for all Schools, so ask your own School's postgraduate office rather than relying on another School's number.
The submission steps published by USM Schools ask for both draft and final thesis PDFs to be password-protected with your student smart card number and sent by email. We prepare the PDF, but you set the password and send it. We never ask for your smart card number.
On the IPS scale, Scale 2 is a pass with minor corrections listed in the Viva-voce Panel Report, and Scale 3 is a pass with major changes that the panel must verify. Scale 4 is re-examination with a second viva, and Scale 5 is a fail. We help with corrections at Scales 2, 3 and 4.
The IPS format guide sets a ceiling of 80,000 words for a PhD thesis and 50,000 words for a master's thesis. These are maximums, not targets. If your draft is over, we look for repetition across the literature review and discussion first, because that is where most of the excess usually sits.
The final thesis steps published by USM Schools list proof of publication, such as the first page of a paper, an acceptance letter or a citation report, for students who started from Semester I of 2017/2018 onwards. The exact number and indexing depend on your programme, so confirm yours with IPS. Our journal team can help turn a chapter into a paper.
IPS asks for red hardbound covers with gold lettering for a master's thesis and black with gold lettering for a PhD. Two hardbound copies are produced after corrections are verified, each with a CD, one set for your School and one for IPS. We prepare the print-ready file; the binder and the submission are yours.
Yes. Some of our writers work in academic Bahasa Malaysia, and Bab 1 to Bab 5 requests in BM reach us regularly. The IPS formatting rules, margins and the two-abstract requirement still apply. Tell us the language your thesis was approved in before we start.
No. We are an independent service and have no affiliation with USM, IPS or any School. Everything on this page about IPS rules comes from documents USM publishes online, and we ask you to confirm anything your own School does differently.
We rewrite flagged passages by hand from your own notes and sources and keep the drafts so you can show your process. We do not promise a particular AI score, because detectors misfire on human writing too.
