A chapter is not a paper. It is three times too long, argues to an examiner instead of a field, and buries the contribution on page forty. We choose the target journal first, then write the manuscript to that journal's guidelines rather than shopping a finished draft around afterwards.

Most submissions from Malaysian candidates never reach a reviewer. These six failures happen at the editor's desk, often within forty-eight hours.
Fifteen thousand words, a literature review of forty studies, and a methodology chapter written for an examiner. Journals want six to eight thousand words arguing one contribution to a field. Editors recognise a pasted chapter on the first page.
A finished draft shopped from journal to journal until one accepts. Each has a different word limit, structure, reference style and scope, so every submission needs reworking and every rejection costs another two months of waiting.
Good research sent to a journal that does not publish that kind of work. Editors reject on scope faster than on quality, and the aims and scope page states exactly what they will and will not consider.
A summary of what you did with no sentence saying what the field now knows that it did not before. Editors read the abstract first and decide there. Everything after it only matters if that paragraph earns the reading.
An acceptance in four days, an invoice, and a journal your graduate school does not recognise for indexing requirements. The money is gone, the work cannot be resubmitted elsewhere, and the publication does not count toward anything.
Major revisions returned, three reviewers disagreeing with each other, and a deadline. A response letter that answers every point individually โ including the ones you decline โ is what turns major revisions into acceptance.
Rejected and no reason given? Send the manuscript and the editor's email. Desk rejections almost always come down to one of these six.
Diagnose My Rejection โEight items. Editors reject submissions for missing any one of them, and most authors send only the first.
Three to five journals matched to your scope, with indexing status shown against the Scopus source list or Web of Science master list, plus quartile, CiteScore, acceptance turnaround and article processing charge where one applies.
Cut to the journal's word limit by removing what an examiner needed and a field does not, restructured into IMRaD, and rewritten to argue one contribution rather than to demonstrate the breadth of your candidature.
An abstract that states the gap, the method, the finding and the contribution inside the journal's word ceiling. Keywords chosen for discoverability rather than repetition, and highlights where the publisher requires them.
Written to the handling editor rather than to nobody โ why this journal, what the paper adds, confirmation the work is original and unsubmitted elsewhere, and suggested reviewers where the journal invites them.
Word limits, section headings, reference style, figure resolution, table format, ethics statement wording and submission file structure. Each publisher differs, and desk rejections for guideline breaches are entirely avoidable.
Ethics approval reference, informed consent, data availability, funding, conflict of interest, and an authorship order that reflects actual contribution. Increasingly mandatory, and increasingly checked before review.
Publishers state minimum resolution, font size within figures, colour handling and file format. Screenshots taken from a thesis are the single most common reason a production desk sends a paper back after acceptance.
Every comment answered separately, changes located by page and line, and disagreements argued politely with evidence rather than conceded. Where two reviewers contradict each other, that is stated openly for the editor to arbitrate.
Only need part of the pack?A journal shortlist, abstract and cover letter, or a reviewer response letter can be ordered alone from RM 250.
Order One Item โJournal selection happens at step two, before a word of your manuscript is rewritten.
Step two changes everything downstream.Send your abstract and we'll come back with realistic targets โ including an honest view on whether Q1 is reachable with this paper.
See My Realistic Targets โFour checks you can run yourself in ten minutes.
Do not trust the badge on the journal's own website. Open the Scopus source list or the Web of Science master list and search the ISSN. If it is not there, it is not indexed, whatever the homepage claims.
"Acceptance within seven days" is not efficiency, it is an admission that no peer review is happening. Genuine review in most fields takes six weeks to six months, and a journal proud of being fast is telling you something.
Look for COPE membership, DOAJ listing for open access titles, a named editorial board with traceable affiliations, and a physical address that exists. Invented board members are common and easy to spot once you check two of them.
Malaysian universities maintain their own recognised and non-recognised lists, and these differ between institutions. A journal that counts at one university may count for nothing at yours โ confirm before you submit, not after you pay.
Have a journal in mind already?Send us the name or the ISSN. We'll run all four checks and tell you plainly whether it is indexed, recognised and worth your fee.
Verify My Journal Free โThe same work can be published three different ways, and the format decides your word limit, your structure and how long review takes.
The standard format and the one most graduation requirements expect. Usually six to eight thousand words in IMRaD, built from one or two chapters of your thesis and arguing a single contribution.
Built from your literature review rather than your results, which makes it the fastest route to a first publication for candidates still collecting data. Review articles also attract citations disproportionately.
Three to four thousand words presenting a single result that stands alone. Reviewed faster than a full article and genuinely useful when a deadline for graduation is close and the full paper is not ready.
We flag where the ICMJE criteria apply, but authorship order is a conversation you have with your supervisor.
Research conducted and written in BM for a thesis, then rebuilt as an English manuscript for an indexed journal. This is a rewrite rather than a translation โ the argument structure that works for a BM thesis is not the one an international editor expects.
Every one of these is fixable before you send it.
Want yours checked against all eight?Send the manuscript and your target journal. We'll mark which of the eight would stop it at the desk, before you submit.
Pre-Check My Submission โAll three below review for indexed journals in their fields.
๐Doctorate in management, Scopus-indexed publications
๐Reviews for two Emerald and Sage titles
"When I referee, I decide in the abstract. If I finish it not knowing what the field gains, the rest is a formality."
Work with Norazlina โ๐Doctorate in electrical engineering, IEEE author
๐Handling reviewer for an Elsevier technology journal
"Half the technical papers I handle are rejected on figures nobody can read at print size. It is the most avoidable rejection there is."
Work with Sanjay โ๐Doctorate in health sciences, published review author
๐Referees for two indexed health education journals
"Candidates still collecting data assume they cannot publish yet. A review article from Chapter 2 is often their first paper."
Work with Wen โWhich field is your paper in?Business, technical or health โ say which and it goes to the author who referees that literature, before anything is charged.
Match Me to an Author โThe research is already done. These six things decide whether it survives an editor's first read.
Word limit, structure, reference style and scope all come from your chosen target. Writing first and shopping afterwards means reworking the paper for every rejection, and each cycle costs two months.
The methodology detail an examiner required, the forty-study review, the reflective passages. A paper argues one thing to specialists who already know the field. Cutting well is most of the work.
We check your shortlist against the actual source lists and against your own university's recognised list, and we have never put a predatory title in front of a client. That number stays at zero.
Cover letter, statements, highlights, figures as separate files in the format the portal expects. Authors who send only a manuscript are rejected for things that were never about their research.
A sound master's study aimed at a top-quartile journal usually collects a desk rejection and six wasted months. You will hear a realistic band before you commit, even when it is not what you hoped.
Reviewer comments are where most first-time authors stall. The response letter is included in full manuscript orders, because a paper is not published until that round is answered properly.
Wondering if your chapter is publishable at all?Send the abstract and we'll say honestly whether it carries a paper, and which quartile band is realistic for it.
Is My Chapter Publishable? โA.R. needed one Scopus-indexed publication before his viva and had eleven months left. He had submitted the same 14,200-word chapter to four journals and been desk-rejected by all four, twice within seventy-two hours. Two had cited scope, one had cited length, and one had sent nothing but a form. He had also been quoted for publication by a journal promising acceptance in five days, which he had nearly paid before checking with anyone.
We started with the journal rather than the manuscript. Five candidates were shortlisted, each verified on the Scopus source list by ISSN and cross-checked against his university's recognised list, with quartile and typical turnaround shown. The fast-acceptance journal he had almost paid was not on any of them. He chose a Q3 title with a stated eight-week first decision. The chapter was then cut to 7,400 words โ the literature review reduced from forty studies to fourteen that his argument actually needed, and the methodology trimmed to what a specialist reader requires rather than what an examiner demanded. The abstract was rewritten to state the contribution in its third sentence. Figures were rebuilt from his original data files at print resolution, and the submission pack was assembled with a cover letter naming the handling editor.
The paper went out for review rather than being desk-rejected, returned with major revisions from two reviewers who disagreed on the framework, and was accepted after one round with a point-by-point response letter. Published five months before his viva.
Been desk-rejected more than once?Send the manuscript and the rejection emails. The pattern across them usually names the problem faster than any single one does.
Read My Rejection Pattern โA thesis chapter desk-rejected by four journals, and a near-miss with a title promising acceptance in five days.
Journal chosen first with indexing verified by ISSN, chapter cut by half, abstract rewritten to state contribution, figures rebuilt, full pack assembled.
Nothing about the research changed. The submission did.
A candidate eighteen months from finishing, with a publication requirement and no results yet, assuming she could not publish until the study was complete.
Her literature chapter rebuilt as a standalone review article, scope matched to an indexed nursing education title, ethics and funding statements added.
A review article needs no new data. It is the most overlooked first publication in Malaysian candidature.
One strong standalone result, a graduation deadline nine months out, and a full paper that was not going to be ready in time.
Written as a short communication around the single finding, figures rebuilt to print resolution with source files, submitted to a title with faster review.
One finding, published, beats a complete paper that misses the deadline it was written for.
Which of these looks like your situation?Chapter to article, review from your literature, or one finding on a deadline โ name the closest and we'll scope yours the same way.
Scope My Paper โ"Four desk rejections with the same 14,000-word chapter. Nobody had told me a journal is chosen before the writing, not after."
"I nearly paid a journal promising acceptance in five days. Searching the ISSN on the Scopus list took two minutes and it was not there."
"I was eighteen months from finishing and assumed I couldn't publish yet. My literature chapter became a review article."
"My figures were screenshots from the thesis. The production desk sent it back after acceptance and delayed everything by six weeks."
"Two reviewers wanted opposite things. The response letter said so openly and let the editor decide instead of me guessing."
"They told me Q1 wasn't realistic with this paper and suggested a Q3 with an eight-week decision. I made my viva deadline."
"Saya sangka menerbitkan daripada tesis sendiri dikira plagiarisme. Rupanya cuma perlu diisytiharkan dalam surat kepada editor."
"Rejected on scope twice. Reading the last two issues of a journal before submitting turned out to be the whole trick."

We do not charge for and do not receive anything from journals; where a title levies an article processing charge, you pay the publisher directly and we tell you the amount before you choose it.
Priced per paper rather than per word. A journal shortlist is RM 250, an abstract and cover letter RM 350, a short communication RM 850, a thesis chapter rebuilt as a research article RM 1,200, a review article RM 1,600 and a full manuscript written from your data RM 1,900. A response-to-reviewers round is RM 480 and is included in full manuscript orders.
Yes, and most Malaysian candidates are expected to. It is a rebuild rather than a copy: roughly two-thirds of the chapter comes out, the literature review shrinks to what the argument needs, and the whole paper is restructured to argue one contribution to a field rather than to demonstrate competence to an examiner. Check your university's policy on prior publication, since a few require the thesis to be submitted first.
Because desk rejection is a decision about your submission, not your research. Scope mismatch is the most common cause, followed by exceeding the word limit, an abstract that states no contribution, English below review standard, and missing ethics statements. A rejection in forty-eight hours means nobody read past the abstract, which is genuinely good news โ the paper itself has not been judged yet.
Yes, through a review article built from your literature chapter. It needs no new data, it satisfies most graduation publication requirements, and review articles attract citations disproportionately. This is the most overlooked route to a first publication among Malaysian candidates, who often assume they must wait until the study is complete.
No, and nobody honest can. Acceptance depends on peer reviewers making an independent judgement about your research, which is exactly how it should work. What can be controlled is everything before that point โ scope fit, guideline compliance, a stated contribution, a clean submission pack โ and that is the difference between reaching review and being desk-rejected.
Neither. We receive nothing from any journal and have no arrangement with any publisher, which is precisely why a shortlist from us is worth something. Where a title levies an article processing charge you pay the publisher directly, and we tell you the amount before you choose it. Any service claiming it can place your paper is describing something you do not want.
Politely, with evidence, and without conceding the point. Editors expect authors to defend their choices, and a response that accepts every criticism reads as weakness rather than cooperation. Answer each comment separately, locate every change by page and line, and where two reviewers contradict each other, say so openly and let the editor arbitrate.
Not if it is handled openly. Most publishers accept papers derived from a thesis and many say so in their policies, but similarity screening will still flag the overlap. Declare the thesis in your cover letter, cite it where appropriate, and rewrite rather than paste. Problems arise from concealment, not from the practice itself.
Anyone meeting the ICMJE criteria โ substantial contribution to the work, involvement in drafting or revising it, approval of the final version, and accountability for it. Supervisors usually qualify. We flag where the criteria apply, but authorship order is a conversation you have with your supervisor and department rather than one we settle on your behalf.
Yes, and it is a rewrite rather than a translation. The argument structure that works in a BM thesis is not what an international editor expects, so the paper is rebuilt in IMRaD with the contribution moved forward. Terminology is aligned to the conventions of your target journal's field rather than translated term by term.
Preparation takes three to eight weeks depending on format. After that the journal controls the clock: first decision commonly runs eight to sixteen weeks, revisions add four to eight, and production another four to twelve. If you need a publication before a viva, start at least twelve months out, and tell us the deadline so the shortlist favours titles with faster decisions.
Completely. Your data, manuscript and target journal choices are used only for your order, never reused, never shared beyond the author assigned to you, and deleted once the order closes. Unpublished findings are the most sensitive thing a researcher owns and priority is not something you can recover once lost.
Most major publishers now permit it for language and drafting while requiring you to disclose it, and none permit it for generating results or references. Policies differ between publishers and are being revised often, so read your target journal's author guidelines rather than assuming. The pattern across all of them is the same: undisclosed use is the problem, not assistance itself.
No. Both COPE and the ICMJE criteria rule it out, and the reason is not squeamishness โ authorship carries accountability for the work, and a tool cannot be held accountable, respond to a reviewer or answer a correction notice. If a submission lists a model as an author it is returned before review. Acknowledge the tool in a declaration instead.
Very possibly, though not for the reason authors expect. Editors triage on the abstract, and generated abstracts describe a method competently while stating no contribution โ which is already one of the commonest desk rejections on this page. The tell is not detection software. It is an editor finishing the paragraph without learning what the field gains.
Increasingly, alongside the similarity check that has run for years, and a flag at that stage can end a submission before an editor reads it. Screening tools disagree with each other and produce false positives on formal academic English, which is exactly why disclosure protects you: a declared, permitted use is a policy matter, while an undeclared one flagged at submission becomes an integrity question.
Name the tool, state what it was used for and where. Most publishers want this in a declaration section near the acknowledgements or funding statement, and some ask for it in the methods where the tool touched the analysis. Keep it specific โ "language editing of the discussion section" rather than "AI was used" โ and put nothing in that declaration you would not repeat to the editor.
