Research Results and Findings Help โ€” Turning Output Into a Chapter

Forty tables of output is not a findings chapter. The work is choosing the nine that answer your objectives, sending the rest to an appendix, and knowing where your own faculty draws the line โ€” at some, science reports Results with Discussion kept separate, while business and social science merge findings and analysis into one bab. We build Bab 4 for a Sarjana or Doktor Falsafah: tables rebuilt to APA, every finding tied to the objective it answers, written original and AI-free.

Six Common Faults

Why a Results Chapter Looks Unfinished Even When the Analysis Is Right

Correct numbers are not the same as a finished chapter.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ

Results Tables With No Story Between Them

Eleven tables in a row and almost no prose. Every table needs a sentence introducing it, a sentence stating what it shows, and a link to the objective it belongs to. Without that connective writing, the chapter reads as an appendix.

๐Ÿšง

Interpretation Has Crept Into Your Results

"This suggests Malaysian employees value autonomy more than salary." That belongs in Chapter 5, and its presence in Chapter 4 is the single most common margin note supervisors write on a findings draft.

๐Ÿ”—

Findings Not Traced Back to Objectives

The chapter is organised by which test was run instead of by what the study set out to answer. Examiners read Chapter 4 looking for their answers to your own research questions, and a structure that hides them costs marks.

๐Ÿ’ฌ

Qualitative Findings Reduced to Quotations

Qualitative chapters where each theme is a heading followed by four quotations and nothing else. A theme needs a definition, evidence from more than one participant, and a statement of what the pattern is across them.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Figures Nobody Can Read

Default Excel charts with legends cut off, no captions, no cross-references in the text, and pie charts used where a bar chart was needed. Presentation errors are the fastest marks to lose and the easiest to avoid.

โ†”๏ธ

Mixed Methods Presented as Two Studies

Quantitative results, then qualitative results, with nothing joining them. If the strands never meet in Chapter 4, the integration you promised in Chapter 3 has not actually happened.

Chapter came back marked? Send it with your supervisor's comments โ€” we'll tell you whether it needs restructuring or rewriting.

Findings Chapter Structure Mapped to Objectives

Sections ordered by what your study set out to answer rather than by the sequence you happened to run the tests in. An examiner should be able to find each research question's answer without hunting for it.

How It Works

How We Turn Your Output Into a Findings Chapter

Five stages. You approve the chapter map before any prose is written.

1
Send Output and Chapters 1 and 3
Your results in any form โ€” SPSS output, exported tables, coded transcripts.
2
Chapter Map Against Objectives
A one-page outline showing which finding answers which research question.
3

The Line Students Cross

Results or Discussion? Where the Line Actually Sits

More Chapter 4 comments come from crossing this line than from any statistical error.

๐Ÿ“‹

Results Report What Happened

The value, the significance, the direction, the theme and the evidence for it. A reader should finish Chapter 4 knowing exactly what your data showed and nothing about what you think it means.

๐Ÿ’ญ

Discussion Explains Why

Comparison with the literature you reviewed, reasons a relationship held or failed, theoretical and practical implications. If a sentence contains "because", "suggests" or "implies", it almost certainly belongs in Chapter 5.

๐Ÿ”€

When Your Faculty Wants Them Combined

Some programmes require a single "Results and Discussion" chapter. That is a different structure, not a licence to blur the two โ€” each finding is still reported first, then discussed, in that order within its own section.

๐Ÿช

The One Sentence Allowed to Bridge

A closing summary may restate what was found and signal that it will be examined next. That is a handover, not an interpretation, and it is the only place the two chapters should touch.

Not sure which side of the line your chapter sits on?Send it across and we'll mark every sentence that belongs in Chapter 5 โ€” and hand them back as a separate file rather than deleting them.

Presentation Decisions

Eight Ways to Present a Finding โ€” and When Each One Works

Choosing the wrong format buries a good result.

๐Ÿ“‹
Statistical Table
The default for any result with more than two numbers. Built with the columns your test requires and nothing decorative โ€” an examiner should be able to scan it without reading the surrounding prose.
โœ…
Hypothesis Summary Table
One row per hypothesis: statement, test, value, verdict. It is the table examiners look for first, and having it shapes how sceptically they read everything above it.
๐Ÿ“Š
Bar and Clustered Charts
For comparing categories or groups. Clustered bars when a second grouping variable matters. Never a pie chart for more than four slices, and never for anything an examiner needs to compare precisely.
๐Ÿ“ˆ
Line and Interaction Plots
For change across time or, more often in Malaysian theses, for simple slopes showing a moderation. An interaction is far easier to accept as a plot than as a coefficient in a table.
๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ
Path Diagram With Coefficients
For structural models. Beta values and significance markers placed on the arrows so the whole model is readable at a glance, with the full statistics kept in the accompanying table.
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
Thematic Map
Shows how codes group into sub-themes and themes. It is what convinces an examiner your qualitative themes were derived rather than decided in advance, and most students omit it.
๐Ÿ’ฌ
Quotation Blocks With Codes
Indented, attributed to an anonymised participant identifier, and chosen because they are representative rather than because they are quotable. Two speakers per theme minimum.
๐Ÿ”ฒ
Cross-Tabulation
For relationships between categorical variables, usually alongside a chi-square result. Report counts and percentages together โ€” one without the other is a question waiting to be asked.

Unsure which format suits your result?Send one finding and we'll show you how it would look as a table and as a figure, so you can see the difference before ordering.

The Difference

What a Findings Chapter Needs Beyond Correct Numbers

Accurate results are the starting point, not the deliverable. These are the things that decide whether the chapter is accepted.

๐Ÿงญ

The Structure Follows Your Objectives

Not the order the tests were run in. An examiner opening your chapter should be able to point at each research question and find its answer under a heading that names it.

โœ‚๏ธ

Interpretation Is Actively Removed

We take out the sentences that belong in Chapter 5 rather than leaving them for your supervisor to circle. It is the most common correction on a findings draft and the easiest one to pre-empt.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Figures Are Designed, Not Exported

Readable labels, sensible axis ranges, numbered captions and a cross-reference in the text for every one. Default software output is recognisable on sight and it makes a chapter look rushed.

๐Ÿ“

Your Faculty Template Is Followed Exactly

Caption above or below, decimal places, table numbering by chapter or continuous. These are marks, and they are the marks students most often lose without ever being told why.

๐Ÿ”

We Flag What the Output Cannot Support

If a table you sent does not contain the values your claim needs, you hear about it. Writing around a missing number is how findings chapters end up unable to survive a single question.

๐Ÿค

Written to Hand Over to Chapter 5

The chapter closes by restating findings in the order the discussion will need them. Whoever writes Chapter 5, including you, starts with the material already organised.

๐Ÿ”ด The Problem

H.T. had run her analysis competently and her numbers were not in question. Her supervisor returned the chapter with the same note beside eleven separate paragraphs: this belongs in Chapter 5. She had explained every result as she reported it, so by the end of Chapter 4 there was almost nothing left for the discussion to do. Her qualitative section was worse in a different way โ€” six themes, each a heading followed by three quotations and no statement of what the pattern actually was. The survey results and the interview results sat in separate halves of the chapter with nothing joining them.

๐Ÿ”ต What We Did

We rebuilt the chapter around her four objectives. Every interpretive sentence was lifted out and put into a separate document for Chapter 5. Each theme was given a definition, evidence from at least two participants with anonymised codes, and a closing statement of the pattern, supported by a thematic map. We built a convergence table setting each survey finding beside the interview evidence.

๐ŸŸข The Result

The chapter was accepted at resubmission with no further comments on structure, and the extracted interpretation gave her a substantial head start on Chapter 5. Her supervisor asked her to keep the convergence table in the final thesis.

Told your chapter says too much?Send it over. Interpretation can usually be lifted out and saved for the discussion rather than deleted.

Delivered

Each theme defined, evidenced across at least three participants with anonymised codes, a thematic map showing code-to-theme grouping, and a codebook extract in the appendix.

Why It Worked

The map proved the themes were derived from the data rather than decided beforehand, which is what the examiner had questioned.

Research Results and Findings Help Malaysia โ€” Frequently Asked Questions

Writing up results you already have starts at RM 280 for FYP level, RM 420 for master's and MBA, and RM 700 for PhD. A qualitative chapter with a thematic map is RM 520 and a mixed methods chapter RM 680.

Results report what happened. Discussion explains why. If a sentence contains "because", "suggests" or "implies", it almost certainly belongs in Chapter 5.

By objective, not by test. Open with the response rate and respondent profile, then give each research question its own section.

Yes, at RM 300. The interpretive sentences are lifted out into a separate document rather than deleted, so it becomes the starting point for Chapter 5.

A theme is a claim about a pattern, not a heading over some quotations. Include a thematic map showing how codes grouped into themes.

Tables for anything a reader needs to compare precisely. Figures for shapes an eye grasps faster than a number. Never present the same result as both.

Yes, and the integration is the part that matters โ€” usually a joint display or convergence table.

It is a different structure, not a licence to blur the two. Within each section you still report the finding first and discuss it second.

It cannot see your output, which is the whole problem. Given a pasted table it will produce fluent prose containing values that are not in your data.

Yes, at the same rate as English. We keep terminology aligned with the terms already used in your earlier chapters.

Completely. Your output, transcripts and finished chapter are used only for your order and deleted once the order closes.

That is the exact place it fails. What comes back is fluent commentary attached to numbers that are approximately right.

Yes, and it does so readily. Every quotation in your chapter must be traceable to a line in a real transcript.

Because it is the only chapter where every sentence has to reconcile with a file โ€” checked by opening your dataset and comparing one number.
